Gold Toe Socks Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

First off, let me just say that there is nothing in this world quite as refreshing as putting on a new pair of socks. There's just something about sling your foot into a brand new sock that just makes the world seem like a better place.  With that being said, let me tell you about my new sock adventure.

I've been in the process of finding a job for the last 3-4 months.  It seems like no one is wanting to hire a woman who has been out of the workforce for the last 5 years, even with as good of an excuse as being a stay-at-home momma for the duration.  Rant aside, I finally landed a couple of interviews.  One was with a bank and the other was for a counseling firm.  Even if they were dressy apparel type jobs, I am always one to dress up for an interview.  So I pulled out my nice slacks and a pretty shirt, got out my flats... and realized that I had no dressy socks.

After hours of hunting at the various stores around here, I finally had to give up.  I couldn't find a nice pair of trouser socks anywhere.  I ended up wearing a pair of hot pink ankle socks to the interview because they matched my shirt, but I was self-conscious and knew that they said way more about my personality than was required for an interview.

Then the opportunity to review socks came up and I knew it was time to get a nice pair for such occasions

Wantable Makeup Box Review

Those of you who know me, know that I'm fairly plain.  When I leave the house, I'm usually in jeans and a hoodie with my hair thrown up into a ponytail.  If I miraculously have a chance to go out on the weekend, I'll try to dress up some and throw on some make-up that I grabbed from the dollar store.  I've just never been girly, or taken the time to know what kind of makeup I need.  Maybe it's just because I've never had the right types of makeup for me.

I want to introduce you to an awesome subscription box service,  They offer several different boxes: Makeup, Accessories, and Intimates.  They even have a limited edition Holiday makeup box!  I was given the chance to review one of their Makeup boxes, and the process is really neat.

Mornings According to a Toddler

My little guy is one of my favorite people in this world.  But, I'm pretty sure that he's a little bit crazy.  Oh, and really weird.  He's almost three, and for some reason this has been one of the goofiest times ever.  I've spent time with kids of all ages (between my siblings, there's 12 nieces and nephews, ranging from 8 months to 16 years) but for some reason 3 seems to be the most quizzical, confusing, frustrating, and fun age I've encountered.

Here is (my version of) a morning in the mind of a three year old.

3:45am  Holy Cow!  What is the matter with these people?   I am THIRSTY.  Where's my milk?  Maybe I should scream just a little bit until Momma comes running to bring it to me.  Oh crap, she's carrying that crying baby again.  I swear that kid gets all the attention.  I'm gonna tell Momma that I want to rock, just so she has to put Sissy down.  It's not fair!  Oh, there's my milk.

3:55am  All done.  Here's my milk, Momma.  Why are you sleeping again?  I'm finished with my milk!  Oh, I'll just whack Daddy on the head with it, that usually works.

6:00am  Dangit!  That thing is crying again.  Now she woke me up.  I'm too sleepy to walk.  Better cry until Momma comes and gets me.

6:03am  Put me down, Momma!  I'm big!  I don't need to be carried like a baby!  Don't forget my blankie.

6:05am  Uh oh.  "Momma, potty!" Grrr why are these jammie pants so hard to take off?

6:06am "Yay, Sammy!"  I did it!  I don't want to flush.  The floor is cold.

6:10am  Clothes?  Uhh, no.  I don't want to get dressed!  I want to play with my baby sister.  I love her, she's laughing, she wants me to play with her.  "No pants!  No shirt!  No socks!"  Oh, a shirt like Daddy's?  OK I'll wear that, but no socks!

6:15am  Wow, how did Momma do that?  I was just watching my music show and now I have clothes on.  How did that happen?  "NO SHOES!!"

6:20am "NO SHOES MOMMA!"  I don't want to go to playcare.  I'm gonna stay home today.  Yeah, you can get Sissy dressed - she can go.  I'm staying home with Daddy.

6:25am    "Banana?"  Momma, banana.  "Please?"  Heh heh, "please" always gets her.  I'll have to remember that word for when I get big.

6:45am  Why is Sissy in the floor, Momma?  I wanna ride my scooter but Sissy's in the way.  I'll run her over.  "No, Sissy, don't cry."  Ok, I'll cry too, that way I don't get in trouble.  Crap!  Daddy saw me try to run her over.  Better kiss her head and say sorry.  Momma, Sissy's crying!

7:00am  See, she stopped crying.  I didn't hurt her.

7:05am  Momma, why is the bathroom door shut?  I might need in there.  What are you doing?  You're taking forever in there!  Momma, open the door.  I'm peeking under the door, Momma.  Let me in!

7:07am  No, close the door.  I don't need to potty.

7:15am  "Sammy shoes?"  I want to go to playcare.  Where's my jacket?  Momma, you're not dressed yet!  You shouldn't have spent so much time getting Sissy ready, I want to go now!  I'll help.  Here's your shoes, Momma.

7:17am  You're still not ready, Momma?  Daddy is.  Let him hold the baby, you get dressed.  We have to go.  NOW!

7:20am  Why aren't we leaving yet?

7:24am  "Momma, potty!"  Shoes off.  Socks off.  Pants off.  Big boy car underwear off.  Now I can potty.

7:25am  "NO PANTS!"  I want to run around naked.  It's not cold.  I don't want to go to playcare.  I want to play in my room.  There's cars in there.  VROOOM!

7:27am  She got the pants on me, but I'm not gonna let her put my socks back on.  I hate those things.  I'll kick her.  She always gives up when I kick at her.  Uh oh, there go Momma's glasses.

7:32am Yup, she gave up.  Too many kicks and screams and running around.  I win!

7:33am  Oh man, she called in backup.  Daddy just told me to sit down.  I better listen.  He's my buddy, can't make him mad.  Socks on.  Shoes on.  Jacket on.

7:40am  Sissy's in her carseat.  I need to rock her.  If I don't, she'll start crying.  Here's some toys Sissy.  I'm gonna kiss your head.  Blankie?  Here ya go.  Here's your paci, too.  Can we go now?

7:45am YAY!  Red truck, white car, blue car, big truck, school bus...  I love to name all the cars I see out the window.  We're going, we're going... I love the car!

7:50am  Playcare.  Why do they keep telling me that it's called daycare?  I play here.  It's playcare.  Sometimes I swear these people are silly.  They don't know what they're talking about.  Hurry up, Momma!  Get Sissy out!  I want to go in!

7:55am  Bye, Momma.  I play now.  Bye, See ya later!

Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scale Review

Ozeri is a "specialty manufacturer of digital lifestyle products for the modern home."  They have all kinds of gadgets and nifty stuff that fits any home.  Their site lists items for the home, kitchen, bathroom, and for health and fitness - basically a little bit of everything, all high end.

I was provided with a Digital Bathroom Scale to review for you guys, and it is awesome!

The Ozeri Rev Digital Bathroom Scale with Electro-Mechanical Weight Dial is the first scale ever to combine a synchronized electro-mechanical dial and an LCD display that automatically glows and points to your weight in lbs and kg, for easy-to read results in all light conditions and from any angle.

With it's gorgeous and modern design, the Ozeri Rev scale has a huge 5 and a half inch mechanical dial display with a digital blue-backlit LCD, accented by stylish chrome to give it a distinctive retro look, yet with the accuracy of modern technology.

This professional quality scale features an over-sized platform made of impact-resistant tempered glass with slip-resistant feet for ideal stability, and a new built-in alarm that reminds you to measure your weight at the same time each day.

In all, I absolutely love this scale.  It's stylish (unlike the rest of our bathroom - but we wont talk about that!) and has a total vintage feel, which I can't get enough of.  Poor Matt hates my love for anything retro but even he loves this scale.  In his words, "That's pretty pimp," which is about the highest compliment you'll ever get out of him.

The only thing that concerns me about this Ozeri scale is the platform.  It is made from impact-resistant tempered glass for ideal stability, but I don't think that there was enough thought put into the texture of the surface.  Straight out of the box, there is a little warning sticker that states, "Slippery when wet."  Not a cause for worry, as I usually don't weigh myself as soon as I get out of the shower.  I do, however, wear socks around the house.  When I stepped on the scale, I slipped and almost fell - so I would say that is the only design flaw.  No biggie though, I just have to remember to take my socks off next time!

The best part is that Ozeri is a company that uses Microban antimicrobial technology - infused in the products at the manufacturing stage to ensure that their products inhibit the growth of stain- and odor-causing bacteria.  Very important for something that's going to stay in the bathroom, especially with a toddler that insists on stepping on the scale as soon as he's finished on the potty!

The Ozeri Rev also features the latest generation of StepOn technology to display your precise body weight as soon as you step on the scale - so no tapping required. It is auto-calibrated and automatically turns off to conserve battery life. It runs on 3 AAA batteries (included) and features a Low Battery Indicator. They also guarantee your satisfaction 100%!

You can find the Ozeri Rev scale on Amazon.

Disclaimer: I was provided with an Ozeri Rev Scale in order to facilitate an honest review.  No other compensation was received for this post.  All opinions are my own.

My Toddler is Tongue-Tied

My little man, Sammy, has had several issues over the last couple of years.  When he was a baby, he couldn't latch on to breastfeed - my doctor said it was from my inverted nipples and to basically give up.  I wanted what was best for my baby, so I pumped his breast milk for the first four months of his life.  It was painful, time consuming, and I hated it.  Eventually I gave up, and switched him solely to formula.  I was proud of the little amount I was able to provide for him, after all breast is best, but still feel guilty to this day for giving up.

7 Month Old: Baby Girl Update

Kaya hit the big 7 month mark this week.  What should you expect around a baby's seventh month?  Every baby is different, but here's where Kaya is at developmentally:

Eating solid foods.
Kaya absolutely loves to eat – we’re talking a couple tablespoons of rice cereal and a whole jar of baby food. Her favorites? Carrots and green beans. Matt loves this stage because he can introduce her to all kinds of flavors – with me following behind making sure of the ingredients in each bite lol

Most infants start eating solids around 6 months, but to make sure they're ready to eat look for certain signs.  Your baby should be able to sit supported, the tongue thrust reflex should be gone, and they should show an interest in eating.

You know you're a mom when...

You know you're a mom when...

When listening to the radio last week, as I always do after I drop the kids off - I was listening to Kellie Rasberry on Kid Kraddic in the Morning - they were talking about how you know you're a mom.  So many things in life change once you become a parent, and everything on the list Kellie was reading was sooo true.
She was referring to an article on Huffington Post: 24 Clear Signs You're a Mom - with reasons like:
1. Instead of running from projectile vomit, you run towards it.

2. You do more in seven minutes than most people do all day.

3. Happy hour has become the 60 minutes between your kids going to bed and you going to bed.

So that inspired me to make my own list.

Giveaway Rules for Social Media

Directly from the Terms of Service pages for social media - here are the guidelines you must follow when hosting a contest or giveaway:

Mimi & Maggie Review: Clothing for Spirited Girls

You may have noticed from all of my pictures of Kaya that I love to dress her up in the cutest clothes I can find.  When Sammy was a baby, there wasn't nearly as many options for dressing him up; now I'm having a blast finding all the sweet ruffle-butts and frilly dresses for my baby girl.  So when I was approached by Mimi & Maggie to review some of their clothing, I jumped at the chance!

#Graco15ForMe Event and Little Lounger Review

As someone who suffers from social phobia and panic disorder, I did something this week that was completely out of my element.  I had received an invitation to attend a Graco party in Atlanta, two hours away from my tiny town in North Carolina.  I thought about turning it down, but the opportunity to be one of the first to learn about a new product and to have a chance to connect with other bloggers in my niche?  I couldn't pass it up!

So, we went.  I say "we" because Matt ended up having the day off of work and wanted to drive me. Apparently the idea of me driving all the way to Atlanta by myself was out of the question.  I love this man! The babies were in daycare, so it was a nice, peaceful drive - almost a mini-vacation for us.  We listened to actual music, had real conversation, and didn't have to stop every ten minutes for potty breaks or diaper changes.

Ageless Derma Review: Stem Cell and Peptide Anti-Wrinkle Cream

When I was in high school, I had every intention of going to college to study genetics and genetic engineering. More specifically, I wanted in the field of stem cell research.  I've always been fascinated by the power of stem cells and their regenerative properties.

Most people start to bristle up when you mention stem cells, but we aren't talking about human stem cells right now.  Did you know that the company Ageless Derma has found a way to incorporate an apple stem cell extract called PhytoCellTec into their revolutionary anti-aging products as a way to "measurably reduce facial wrinkles"?

Today, my Daddy would be 51.  Instead, he was taken from me at the way-too-early age of 46.  There isn't a day that goes by he isn't on my mind - I miss him more than anything.

At his funeral, a poem was read - The Dash by Linda Ellis.  Due to copyright, I cannot post the poem here, but I am going to share an excerpt:
For it matters not, how much we own,
the cars…the house…the cash
What matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our dash.

Baby's Journey BabySitter Review {and Giveaway!}

As you saw in my Wordless Wednesday post, Kaya is starting to eat solids.  Her favorites so far are carrots and green beans.  Silly, right?  I can hardly get her to eat fruit, but she loves her veggies.  Hopefully it'll stay that way throughout childhood!

Anyway, now that she's eating, it's time for her to start sitting at the table.  Problem is, we don't have a high chair for her yet.  (She was a surprise so we never thought we'd need to use Sammy's again.)  Honestly, our dining room is pretty small so I keep putting off getting a conventional high chair.

Then we were sent the BabySitter from Baby's Journey.  Talk about an easy solution!  It connects to a normal kitchen chair and converts it into a high chair.  It's also small enough to throw into the diaper bag and bring along to restaurants, or family gatherings.

The BabySitter is is designed for children who can sit unassisted, so it shouldn't be used until your child reaches that milestone.  It is machine washable (soooo important with messy little ones!) and wipes clean really easy.  The shoulder straps are adjustable, so it can grow with your little one.  The chair straps are also adjustable so it fits almost any kind of chair.

Securely fits onto most chairs, even our awkward ones!

Kaya seemed pretty comfortable in it, and loved the cute designs on the belly part.  She's still a bit wobbly sitting up but did great for her first time eating completely upright.  Here she is, chilling in her new seat:

Hi BabyBoo! from YoGabbaGabba Creators: Kickstarter

Sammy loves Yo Gabba Gabba, so we were excited to hear that YoGG co-creator, Scott Schultz, and YoGG music supervisor, Ben Schultz, along with Night & Day Studios, are creating a new video series and app for babies.  Now Kaya will have a show that she can watch too!

Hi Babyboo! will bring music, art, puppets,  sign language, and giggles to the youngest audiences with Hi BabyBoo!

But they need our help.

Scott and Ben are taking this project directly to friends and fans with Kickstarter. Funding will help produce a new multimedia experience for toddlers and babies, including five-minute episodes of the new show and an interactive iPad app that kids and grownups can enjoy together.

Supporter rewards include a variety of exclusive Hi BabyBoo! items, such as T-shirts, onesies, plush dolls, baby books, posters, a production diary, the finished app, and even chances to meet the crew and join the cast.

Join in on supporting the Schultzes to bring this magical project to life!

#MC Jif "Most Creative Sandwich" Contest

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Jif. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

Here in our crazy house, we eat sandwiches all the time.  They're quick, easy, and yummy!  Matt brings his lunch to work, and has a sandwich in there every day.  He's probably the more creative one in the house, coming up with delicious creations to avoid sandwich burnout.

Jif is running a contest right now - Most Creative Sandwich Contest - challenging families across the country to create an original sandwich recipe that includes two tablespoons of your favorite Jif products!
Parents with children ages 6-12 can submit their original sandwich for a chance to win a $25,000 college fund and a trip to New York City!

Check out this picture from a finalist last year – Tropical Fantasy.  I would love to try this!

Looks like it may be time to head to the kitchen and get creative!
This contest ends 11/8, so hurry up and get your entries in!
