Sweet Summer Romper from Mimi & Maggie #Review

Disclosure:  I received the following baby romper for review from Mimi & Maggie. All opinions are my own.

Mimi & Maggie is a company that makes whimsical and unique children's boutique-style clothes. The styles they offer are some of my absolute favorite among the tons of names out there.  The vintage, handmade style of their sweet baby girl clothing just calls out to me, and I can't help but to love the adorable outfits!

Kaya was sent one of their new summer outfits, the Nantucket Island Romper.  It's a simple, retro-styled baby girl outfit that reminds me of something my mom might have worn when she was a little girl.  The colors are vibrant and the material is perfect for summer, 100% cotton.

Mimi & Maggie creates some of the safest baby clothes that I have ever tried.  I love that their bows, appliques, and other decorations are all part of the clothing.  For example, the sweet little shoulder bows on this outfit are tacked on to comply with CPSIA regulations (no loose strings).  The button snaps on the bottom opening uses lead free ring snaps all tested to comply with CPSIA regulations.  They are a company that cares about the health of your little ones.

The Thought That Counts

Guys, I'm writing this one to you.  You've worked all day, you're tired, and when you come home all you want is for your loving wife to be sweet and the house to be quiet.  You want a little romance, a little relaxation, and some time to yourself.

But as soon as you walk in the door, this harried frumpy woman wearing stained up pajama pants with her hair pulled into a ponytail thrusts a screaming baby into your arms and you realize that any hope of spending some quality time with this shell that used to be your sexy mama depends completely on whether or not the two of you can work together to get the rotten munchkins in bed before you both collapse from exhaustion.

Then, after supper and baths and calming the kids down, the two of you retire to the office where you get on YouTube and she hops on Facebook... where the two of you will end up staying until you're both yawning and deciding to go pass out - and then you realize that you haven't even said more than two sentences to each other in the last hour.

I get it.  I do.  My fiance and I have been together for four years now.  We have two kids together.  I can count the times we've held hands in the last year with the Cheerios dropped under the highchair... And our little piggie doesn't let many escape the clutches of her grubby little paws.

You see, when you've been with someone for years, you get comfortable with them.  Then you bring children into the equation, and you're lucky if you even sleep in the same bed.  Case in point?  I sleep on the couch near the baby's crib, and he sleeps in the bedroom.  Late night crying, his snoring, midnight bottles, back pain... so many things come with being a parent that get in the way of romance.

And I'm not talking about sex.  Sure, that tends to disappear after you have kids too, but feeling appreciated every once in a while is just as important.  To feel wanted and needed means so much more than just existing, which is what every couple seems to fall into after their relationship starts to get stagnant.

So how can you get out of the parent rut and feel like an actual couple again?  Take the time to treat each other the way you want to be treated.  I'm talking a 50/50 thing here, but really - the last thing on your wife's mind when she's cleaning spit-up out of her hair is a little romance.  So men, take the initiative.

Run a bath for your woman.  Give her a massage.  Let her know you think she's beautiful.  You don't have to spend a fortune to let her know you care, and I promise - that little bit of effort will make her realize that she has been overly busy with kids, life, and chores, and she will make it up to you.

Be sweet.  Even if it's not in your nature.  When you're on your lunch break at work, send her a text to let her know you're thinking about her.  If she cooks a great meal, clean the table and rinse the dishes.  Heck, if you're feeling spunky, you could wash those dishes for her too.

I know you've worked all day, but help out with the kids when you get home.  Sure, your job is manual labor and all she's done is sit at home with the kids - how hard can that be?  Yeah, buddy... you try it sometime. The stress from a toddler's tantrums and a baby's earache will make you feel like tearing your hair out too. Help make the evening go a little smoother for her by splitting up the baby duties and then you'll both have more time to relax and spend time together when they're in bed.

You are with this woman because you fell in love with her.  Remind yourself of that, and then take the time to remind her.  You wont be sorry.

BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier One #Review: #WombToWalking

Disclaimer:  I received a BABYBJÖRN Baby Carrier One in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

My Kaya is definitely a momma's girl. She's clingy and never wants me to set her down.  Not that I mind too much; it's so amazing having someone love you that much.  It does get inconvenient though when I'm trying to do, well, anything.  And although I must have broken some kind of record for one-handed dish washing, it was definitely time to look into a good baby carrier.  Especially for when we go for walks and whatnot, because she loves to be outside but hates being in a stroller.  There's only so much toting around a 15 pound baby that a momma can handle.

I was ecstatic when I found out that BABYBJÖRN was going to send me their Baby Carrier One in black mesh to review.

Urbini Touri Travel System #Review

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Urbini. I received a product sample to facilitate my review and as a thank you for participating.

My family is always on the go.  It seems like there's always something to do, somewhere to go.  But on those occasions where we are able to spend family time together, there is nothing better than taking a stroll in the park.  To accomplish this, without breaking my back now that my baby girl is getting too heavy for her carrier, we definitely needed a baby stroller.

Thankfully, we were introduced to one of the best travel systems that I think I've ever used - the Urbini Touri Travel System.

The stroller itself is lightweight and folds up into an extremely easy to carry umbrella-style fold.
I loved that the stroller has a handle on the side so you can tote it around with just one arm, leaving that other arm free for the baby you have to carry on your hip.

Ju-Ju-Be: Better Be Diaper Bag #Review - #WombToWalking

I received a free Better Be diaper bag from Ju-Ju-Be in order to facilitate an honest review.  All opinions are my own.

Let me tell you a story.  Shortly after my second child was born, we decided to go to the in-laws' house.  Of course, the pro-mom that I thought I was, I only grabbed an extra bottle, a couple of diapers, and some wipes.  We weren't going to be gone but for a few hours and I had long ago retired the bulky diaper bags when they were no longer necessary after my first.  We hadn't been gone for more than an hour when my baby girl spit up all over her outfit, big brother had had an accident in his pants, and I got a migraine.  Ever since that day, I try to carry everything we could possibly need, everywhere we go.

That's why I love my new Ju-Ju-Be: Better Be diaper bag.  It's lightweight, has a comfortable strap, and has pockets for everything.

Not to mention, it's super cute!  I received the Silver Ice pattern, and it just screams spring-time diaper bag to me.  The yellow accents stand out against the silver and white, creating an eye-catching, gorgeous bag.

So what makes a great diaper bag, especially when you have more than one kid?  For me, a diaper bag has to have a nice, big center pocket for extra changes of clothes; bottle pockets; a pocket for smaller things like teething tablets, gas drops, fever reducer, and a pacifier; somewhere to put mom's stuff like extra ibuprofen and chapstick; and has to be comfortable when you're toting around everything but the kitchen sink.  Added bonuses if it's easy to clean and comes with a changing pad.

The Ju-Ju-Be: Better Be bag has all that and more.  First of all, it's made with Agion®, a natural antimicrobial treatment that inhibits and reduces the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold, and mildew. How awesome is that?  Now I don't have to worry about setting y bag down on a public bathroom floor, because I know that the diaper bag is going to repel any yucky germs.  Oh, and the material contains Teflon® to reduce stains.  Kid spills juice on the bag?  No problem, just wipe it down!

The best part is that there are tons of pockets.  The center area is big enough to put extra clothes for those "uh-ohs."  I able to fit an outfit for both kids, plus a pair of shoes in the center area.  The outside pockets are holding: (from the top, going clockwise) a pack of wipes, three diapers, a sippy cup, hairbows, medicines, and baby food.  And I still could have put more in there if I needed to.  I ran out of ideas of what to add to the diaper bag before I ran out of room!

The front outside zipper holds a special "mommy pocket" with sunglass case, lipstick loops, and a pen loop. Plus two zippered pockets … one with mesh so you can see what's inside.  There's even a long clip for your keys!

Now, I didn't take a special picture of just the strap, but let me tell you how much I love it.  Messenger bag style, the strap has a memory foam shoulder pad for comfort.  So important when you're carrying twenty pounds worth of baby stuff on your shoulder.  It also has a textured underside to prevent the strap from slipping off your shoulder.  I have tiny shoulders that straps are always falling off of, so that was an awesome feature to me!  Oh, and everything is attached with metal hardware.  Extra stability to make sure it wont fall apart like some cheaper diaper bags I've used.

Some other great features include the exterior bottle pockets, insulated with Thinsulate™ by 3M™ - great for keeping warm bottles warm and cold juice cold.  And the changing pad?  It's made with memory foam. Yeah, your baby can lay on a cushy, comfy pad instead of a cold, hard plastic changing table.  It's made with the same Teflon® material, so it's easy to clean.

I can honestly say that this is the best diaper bag I have ever used.  Or seen for that matter.  At $120, it is a little pricey, but worth every penny in my opinion.  Especially if you want a diaper bag that will last for years, through several kids.

My Review:

Kiss Me Organics: Organic Matcha #Review

Disclosure: I received the following product as part of an advertorial.
One of my favorite memories is drinking hot tea with my sisters as a little girl.  I've always loved tea - there's just something so relaxing about curling up with a book and a warm cup of tea.  I'd never heard of Matcha before, so I was pretty intrigued to try it.

So what is matcha?  It's a loose, green tea powder that's very fine.  It offers multiple health benefits, including 137x the amount of antioxidants found in regular brewed green tea.  Increased focus, energy, and a metabolism boost are also included in the health benefits of matcha.

I received a 4 oz packet of Kiss Me Organics Organic Matcha - a culinary grade green tea powder that can be used in anything from baking to smoothies.

Now my mistake was that I didn't fully read the packet before trying the matcha.  I decided to try it brewed into a tea.  Although the color was a bright, vibrant green and it smelled delicious, it was bitter and pretty nasty.  Then I noticed that it is culinary grade - intended to be added into foods and drinks as an ingredient, not to be made by itself.

Along with the packet, you also get a cookbook with 50+ recipes for matcha.

I decided to make my own smoothie, with strawberries and blueberries, and of course - the organic matcha. It was delicious!  It had a subtle hint of green tea, while not overpowering the other flavors.

I definitely noticed the increased energy - and as a mom that is a total bonus.  I would recommend this to anyone looking for an added health regimen, as I've been drinking smoothies with organic matcha for about a week now and I feel great!

You can find Kiss Me Organics' Organic Matcha on Amazon - and check out my Amazon review here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RMEZB7ZXCT8DY

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Do Something About Child Abuse

This post may come out offensive to some.  There is some graphic details of abuse, physical and emotional. If that isn't something you can read, please note that this post may not be for you.

I am a stupid, worthless wh*re.  At least that's what I was told at least once a week between the ages of ten and eighteen.  I couldn't do anything right, I broke everything I touched, and the only reason I was allowed to live in that house was because my father didn't want me.

I read so much today about how bad bullying is, and how we need to stop it.  Kids are being called names, being pushed around, and losing their self-esteem at school.  Yeah, but what about what's going on at home? Why isn't there more talk about child abuse and neglect?  Those are so much more detrimental to children than some bully taking their lunch money.

Don't get me wrong, bullying is bad and proactive steps should be taken to prevent and punish bullying.  But what about the bullies that are in the home, pushing the child around before they even get on the bus in the morning?

Easy Roasted Asparagus Recipe {Guest Post}

I have another great guest post recipe for you guys today, coming from Becky over at Midwest Cornfed Mom!

About Becky:   I spend my days juggling my job as a Public Health nurse, a wife, and mom of two boys at home. I love to run and blog in my free time, but mostly I enjoy spending time with my family. Over at my blog, I write about parenting, cloth diapers, "paleo" food, and life in general!

Roasted Asparagus Recipe

Since Spring is finally starting to peek it's head out and say "Hello!", I've decided to share a recipe with you all that is a favorite in my house. We love to grill and do most of our cooking on the grill from February to November.  This recipe is so simple and quick that we have it at least once a week.  Even my husband who doesn't eat many vegetables will eat this!

Fresh Asparagus Spears (Skinny spears work best)
Olive Oil
Black Pepper
Season Salt

Rinse the asparagus and cut the bottom 1/2 inch off.
Place spears in a bowl and toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1/4 tsp. black pepper, and season salt to taste. After coating all pieces, place in a grill basket and grill over low-medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
Turn spears over, and grill another 3-5 minutes.
Remove from heat, serve with your favorite main entree and enjoy!

These go well with pork chops or steaks on the grill!
