The Voice and CLEAR Scalp & Hair

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of the Global Influence Network.

I'm a sucker for reality T.V.  Luckily, Matt loves competition shows as well, so I can watch my weekly shows without complaint.  Our newest favorite is The Voice on NBC - which is returning again September 22nd, thankfully!  There's something so addictive about the edge-of-your-seat eliminations; we also love a good performance.  I have to say, I'm a little disappointed that Christina Aguilera wont be returning for the new season; she was my favorite judge.  I've always loved her voice, and she was the one who gave the best advice to the contestants.

Now you can hit a high note and let your hair shine! CLEAR SCALP & HAIR THERAPY™ will give you the confidences you need to feel, look and perform at your best! CLEAR SCALP & HAIR THERAPY™ makes your hair beautiful and resilient by deeply nourishing your scalp. So head into Rite Aid and find the CLEAR SCALP & HAIR THERAPY™ product that is right for you.

And now in partnership with The Voice, get 2 free song downloads from your favorite The Voice performers, when you purchase any CLEAR SCALP & HAIR THERAPY™ product at Rite Aid from 7/1/14–7/31/14.

Strawberry Lemon Paletas

I've been promising my three year old all week that we would go to the park so he can play on the "boo dinosaur roar" slide.  Unfortunately, it's been raining every afternoon and we haven't gotten to play outside much.  I feel horrible, having been busy with school work and blogging; we haven't gotten to spend much one-on-one time together lately.  So today, I decided that we were going to make some homemade popsicles.

One of my favorite things about summer was running after the ice cream cart, getting a strawberry paleta, and going for a walk to the park with my dad.  I've had a set of popsicle molds sitting in the cabinet, unopened, for about a year.  It was time to break them out and try my hand at making a good summertime popsicle recipe.

We had a bunch of fresh fruit in the fridge, so I figured a strawberry lemon paleta would be simple to make and delicious.  I wasn't wrong.  These just taste like summer, and the kids loved them too!  (Momma scored some cool points today!)

If You Like It, Then You Better Put a Label On It! {Label Land Review}

A special thanks to Label Land for providing samples in exchange for this review.

My three year old came home from daycare wearing another kid's pants.  This was about a year ago, when he was still not fully potty trained, and he had an accident.  The teacher helped clean him up, and then grabbed his extra clothes from his cubby.  Only, they weren't his pants.  At the end of the day, I looked for some sort of name in the pants so we could return them to the rightful owner, but there wasn't one.

Maybe I'm just an over-thinking mom, but I think having your little one's name on spare clothes, backpacks, shoes, etc. is a great way to help keep up with everything.  Kids are going to lose their stuff.  To be completely honest, even I lose their stuff sometimes.  Knowing that there might be a way to have lost items returned to your little one makes things a little easier.

That's why I agreed to work with Label Land for a review.  They provided me with waterproof labels, iron-on labels, and these pretty awesome "Stick-n-Wear" clothing name labels, free of charge in exchange for this review.

Of course, the first ones I had to try out were the waterproof labels.

12 Gifs Only Moms Can Relate To

Every mom has experienced these emotions or reactions at some point or another.  For me, most of them are daily.  Especially number #2.
So here they are, twelve relatable gifs for moms.

1. Knowing your kid just picked something off the floor and ate it

2. Getting so frustrated at something your kids did that you can't even form a complete sentence

3. When your kid asks you if they can have ice cream for dinner:

Guest Post: How Special Needs Impacts Child Custody

Divorce is never an easy thing to go through even under normal circumstances. Caring for a child with special needs is also a challenge that many parents struggle through. Combine the two and it’s easy to see how much of a struggle both the parents and the child have to go through. When the parents both disagree on what’s best for the child, it is sometimes left up to the courts to decide: and these decisions are always done with the best interests of the child in mind, even if it might not always be considered “fair” for the parents. Knowing what the courts look for will also help provide some perspective on how an arrangement might be reached before it ever gets that far, ultimately ensuring the child will have the best shot in the future.

Take Control of Your Water with Clearly Filtered

Disclaimer: I received the following water pitcher from Clearly Filtered in exchange for an honest review.  All opinions are 100% my own.

When you have kids, there's always so much to worry about.  What chemicals are in their food?  What germs are on that piece of chewed-up gum they decided to pick up off the ground?  How long should they sit in a rear-facing car-sear?  Am I too stern?  Am I not stern enough?  The questions and what-ifs are endless.

You see, my babies were formula fed.  I constantly worried about what unseen yucky stuff was in the water that came out of the tap, so we purchased purified water by the gallon.  It only cost about one dollar per gallon, but when you're going through a gallon every two-three days, it adds up pretty quickly.  Not to mention worrying about whether or not the water contained fluoride, or other added minerals.

Now that they're off of formula, they drink plain water several times a day and I still wonder if they're being affected by the fluoride in the city water.

Thankfully, with the Clean Water Pitcher from Clearly Filtered, I have one less thing to worry about.

The Clearly Filtered Clean Water Pitcher boasts an incredible 6 month life span (or 200 gallons) per filter. You can be sure that this filtered pitcher will provide safe drinking water for your family, as it removes almost everything from your water

Products for Organizing Your New Baby's Nursery

Expecting a first child is a very exciting time and there is a lot to do to prepare for that new bundle of joy. Aside from picking a name, organizing the nursery is pretty high up on the list of things to do during the pregnancy.

When it comes to designing and organizing a nursery, don't focus on just the baby stage.  Think beyond the first year, to when the child will be crawling, walking, growing and playing in the space.  There are many pieces of furniture that are designed with this in mind; a crib that later converts to a bed, for example.  Aside from a crib, a changing table is the next most important piece.  A comfortable chair for feeding baby, a bureau and a toy box are other pieces to consider for the nursery.

6 Tips to Support Your Favorite Blogs

I've written a couple of posts over the last few weeks about how to make money from home.  I had planned on writing the next one on blogging for income, but the truth is - there isn't much money to be made from blogging.  Unless a blogger writes an amazing viral post that is seen by over a million people, ad revenues are slim at best.  Affiliate marketing is huge... for some bloggers.  I've seen some women who could sell a ketchup popsicle to a lady wearing white gloves, and after reading their posts - I click through to the marketplace.  Those are few and far between however, and I for one haven't figured out that art.

The trouble with blogging is that we sit here in front of our laptops, and pour out our souls into this little white box, and at the end of the day we're unsure whether we've made any sort of impact.

This is my way of connecting with people.  Blogging is my community.  Without the love from my readers, and fellow bloggers, I would be a hermit - sitting in the corner watching Netflix and snacking on Reese's Cups, wishing I had some sort of outlet.  Writing has opened my life up beyond my living room, and I think I've found my place in life.

Introducing the Bassinest Swivel Sleeper from HALO

This article is brought to you by HALO.

One of the first things I had a hard time deciding when I became a new parent was where to put my baby to sleep.  Co-sleeping advocates will tell you that sleeping with your baby in bed with you promotes bonding, makes breastfeeding easier, and will result in an easier night's sleep.  On the other hand, research suggests that a co-sleeping baby is 40 times more likely to die of suffocation.  Which choice is the right one?

Well, now parents no longer have to worry about that dilemma.  From HALO, the makers of the revolutionary SleepSack, comes another amazing product: The Bassinest Swivel Sleeper.

With its unique dual-swivel design, the Bassinest is the only bassinet that moves to bring baby to mom. It allows baby to sleep as close as Mom wants – even right next to her in bed – so baby can sleep close AND safe.

"That's What's Wrong with Kids Today"

I got into an argument with my mom yesterday.  It wasn't a knock-down drag-out or anything, but it did make me realize just how different our parenting styles are.  It was one of those conversations that spawned from some comment made from an older lady we met at the store.  I heard the phrase, "Well that's what's wrong with kids today."

I'm sorry, what?

My mom and this lady talked for a good ten minutes about how much of a difference it would make if parents would just spank their children.  When we got back out to the car (I didn't want to make a scene) I let my mom have it.

"You know, what if 'what's wrong with kids today' is that the parents were spanked as children?"  She wasn't sure what to make of that.  "You know, Mom, look at me.  We were spanked.  Do you think it helped?"

What if "what's wrong with kids today" is that the parents were spanked as children? - Tweet This

This is an argument I have with my fiance on a fairly regular basis.  I'm not ok.  I turned out to be a panic-driven, depressed adult who has a hard time functioning in the real world.  My siblings?  I love them, and they are some of the most important people in my world.  However, they're not ok either.  I have a sister who is a frequent visitor to the county jail - who by the way is facing multiple drug-related charges and about to be shipped off to prison soon.  My brother?  He's has five kids, by three different women, and just got out of prison himself.  He's 22.  I have another sister who is doing fairly well right now, with a happy family, a job, and a nice home - but she also battles panic disorder and is a recovering alcoholic.

So no, Mom, your "parenting techniques" didn't work.  Forgive me for refusing your advice.

Keep Momming

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting (#MC) for Shire. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

The relationship that exists between mothers and daughters is unlike any other. It has many unique moments, memories, and yes, even challenges along the way. The relationship dynamic can be even trickier when your daughter is in those tween-age years. What can be even more difficult is when some people dismiss certain behaviors as “typical tween girl behavior” when those behaviors can be symptoms of something more serious. Research suggests that girls are more likely than boys to report having mostly inattentive Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms. Since inattentive symptoms can be less noticeable than hyperactive and impulsive symptoms, it is important that moms know what to look for.

I’m proud to be joining forces with Shire, CHADD and Holly Robinson Peete to announce the launch of keep momming, a new public service initiative geared towards the moms of tween girls to raise awareness of ADHD.

The campaign is anchored within a new digital hub,, where you’ll find tips, tools and other go-to resources for moms, including a checklist to help recognize the symptoms of ADHD – inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity – and then encourages moms to talk to their daughter’s doctor. The keep momming initiative can help moms learn about ADHD and provide ideas on how to spark a conversation and stay connected with their tween.

Don’t miss Holly’s message about the keep momming initiative, and be sure to check out the website at

See Mom dry.

See Mom dry the wet spot left in the floor by baby.

See Dad.

See Dad laugh.

See Dad laugh at Mom for not being able to hold the baby still.

The Next Best Thing to a House Call - Doctor On Demand Review {and a Giveaway!}

This campaign is sponsored by Doctor On Demand, brought to you through the Blogging Mamas Network.  Although I received compensation, all opinions are my own.

These past couple of weeks, I have been so sick.  It started out with a cold I caught from one of the little ones, but then it turned in bronchitis and then pneumonia.  I'm finally starting to get better, but not until after I had to sit in an Urgent Care waiting room for over two hours, and then visit my regular doctor for a checkup. When you have little ones, being sick is hard enough - but trying to find someone to sit with them long enough for you to go to the doctor and get checked out?  That's a headache in itself!

That's why I was amazed to learn about a new online doctor app.  Did you know that you can consult with a doctor straight from your smartphone?  No waiting days or weeks for an appointment, no leaving your house when you're feeling like you've been hit by a truck, and no worrying about getting a sitter just to hang out in a waiting room for hours.

Doctor On Demand is a revolutionary new way to see the doctor.  For only $40, you get to talk one-on-one with a U.S. licensed, board certified doctor.  Co-founded by Jay McGraw, Emmy Award-winning creator and executive producer of The Doctors, with Dr. Phil as an advisor, Doctor On Demand connects you with a doctor any time you need it.

White Chocolate Mocha #Recipe

I have a confession: I am a Starbucks addict.  If I could afford to, I would be drinking their White Chocolate Mochas every day.  Unfortunately, diapers and milk come first, and until I have my own steady income I can't justify running to Starbucks every time I need a caffeine boost.

So I started playing around in the kitchen and made my own white chocolate mocha.  Now, I'm not sure how Starbucks makes theirs, so I can't really call this a copy-cat recipe, but it tastes pretty darn close.  So good, in fact, that I feel it's my obligation to share it all with you!

Homemade White Chocolate Mocha

What you'll need:

  • French Vanilla Syrup (usually found in the coffee aisle, with flavored coffees)
  • Coffee (duh)
  • White Chocolate Chips (I use Nestle Premier - they're amazing!)
  • Milk
  • Whipped Cream

How I do it:
  1. First, make your coffee.  You can make it as strong as you like.  Each mocha will use about a half of a cup, so plan accordingly.
  2. Melt your chips in the milk.  I use about 1 cup of milk and a small amount of chips (maybe 1/4 cup) and melt them in a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water (double-boiler style).  Stir occasionally and when the chips are melted, it's done.
  3. Add in about a teaspoon of french vanilla syrup to the milk mixture.  Remove it from the heat, and pour into your cup.  About a half a cup of the milk mixture is what I use, just make sure you leave room for the coffee.
  4. Add in your coffee, top with whipped cream, and enjoy!

Diaper Coupons!

I know I don't share coupons very often, but if I see something about diapers, I'll usually share.  Lord knows those are the most used baby product!  So here you go, some diaper coupons from one of my affiliate sites:

Women's Choice Awards for Baby

Women all over the US have determined the brands that they would recommend. After tens of thousands of surveys, these brands were picked as the top in their categories and given the prestigious 2014 Women's Choice Award.  The Women's Choice Award sets the standard for helping women make smarter choices by honoring brands that focus on delivering an exceptional customer experience women love.

"The Women's Choice Award mission is to raise awareness among consumers about which brands are most recommended and trusted by women," said Delia Passi, CEO and Founder.
Recommendations are the top decision-making factor when it comes to purchases (for any product), from becoming aware of a product right on through to the actual purchase decision.   (Ed Keller, Keller Fay Group, 2012)  Women are earning, spending, and influencing spending at a greater rate than ever before, accounting for $7 trillion in consumer and business spending in the U.S. (Steven Parker Jr., 2014)

Women are responsible for around 80% of purchases, and do most of their research online rather than in-store. (Chicago Sun Times, June 2013)

The award doesn't just signify that these are brands that women like – it shows that women are willing to recommend it to others according to Ms. Passi. "When a woman is willing to stake her reputation on a recommendation, it means that business has earned her loyalty. Those are the businesses we wish to recognize for their efforts and commitment to the No. 1 consumer – women," she says. "We are pleased to salute these outstanding companies for their focus on excellence, a commitment that is recognized by female consumers nationwide."
