Hours of Fun with Playful Dino from Manhattan Toy Co.

When I bring my little guys to the pediatrician, the first toy they run to in the waiting room is always the wooden busy boxes. I can't even tell you how much time they've spent doing the peg mazes and bead runs, waiting for their names to be called for a check-up. Maybe that's why this Mama was so excited about working with Manhattan Toy Co. again, to show off their Playful Dino.
Activity centers like the Playful Dino teach cause and effect while helping to develop fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. I love play-to-learn toys, and what cuter way could there be to boost baby's skills than with this colorful dinosaur?

Straight out of the box, it requires a little bit of assembly. Not much, though! The tail comes unattached, but easily slides with a notch on the box and gets secured with a cord that is looped through and placed on a peg. Took me a couple of tries to get it to stay, but once it's on - it's secure.  I recommend using a screwdriver to stretch the cord over the peg to save your fingers from getting snapped. The cord "hinge" gives the tail a little movement, which of course delighted Kaya even more.

There are so many activities on this Playful Dino to keep a little one occupied. The eyes flip, the flowers "boing," there are spinning gears and letters, plus bead runs and bug mazes - all bright and colorful to keep baby entertained. The cute little characters definitely give it a sweetness, with a ladybug and snail, dragonflies and flowers.

The Playful Dino is rated for kids 12 months and up, and as much as my 3- and 5-year-old love it, I'm going to say it's great for any toddler. Just a simple little busy box that has my kiddos racing bugs and flipping letter, and playing good together.

Really easy to wipe down this wooden toy to keep it disinfected every day, I think this toy is perfect for classrooms and pediatric offices as much as it is for having for your little one at home. It provides hours of easy, simple fun with no extra parts to lose or electronic noises.

My First Gray Hair

I found my first gray hair yesterday. No, not gray.

White.

And not just one - there were two stark white hairs standing proudly against my reddish brunette hair, like some sort of tribute to the youth I once had.

Seriously, body - why are you betraying me?!

Two years away from turning 30, and my first grandma hairs are popping up. Matt cracked up and gave me the whole, "Now who's old?" You know, since he's been quickly graying for the last 5 years. He can just throw a hat on and cover it up, though - I'm going to look like my grandma soon.

Not that my grandma wasn't a gorgeous older lady, but as long as I knew her, she was a grandma. I remember her white hair, soft wrinkles, and glasses. I don't remember a fun lady who got down and colored with me and played hopscotch, but a winded grandmother who asked me to help her up the stairs. That's going to be me any day now.

In true denial fashion, I called my sister hoping she'd give a much-needed pep talk about how it isn't that bad, how it's only two hairs, it probably just looked blonde... those kind of things.

Nope.

As soon as I uttered the words, "first gray hair," I was met with a crazy cackling and a "Welcome to the club." Well, crap. I hope there's some cookies.

To make it even worse, when I discovered the Hair We Do Not Name, we were on our way to the animal shelter to adopt a kitty. I have begun my descent into crazy old cat lady...

I'd always pictured my older self as one of those batty older women with at least 4 cats weaving in between her legs as she cuts out cookies to throw in the oven. Gray hair in a bun, an extra twenty pounds around her midsection, wearing a sweet apron and glasses. I guess I wasn't specific on an age, though; I'd just assumed that older me was at least 60, not 28. Sigh.

Precious Moments for a Precious Girl

Disclosure: I received the product mentioned below for free in the hope that I would mention it on the blog. Regardless, I only recommend products I use personally and feel would be good for my readers.

Oh my goodness, time has flown by. In just two weeks, my step-daughter is going to be ten years old. Her mom and I used to be best friends, so I was there in the hospital when she was born. It was a little weird when I transitioned from "Aunt Jamie" to the evil stepmother, but this kid has been a huge part of my life, her whole life.

We've had our share of moments, good and bad, but this little girl has my heart as much as my biological children. As she gets even older, I'm sure the trying moments will become more and more frequent, but as long as she knows I love her, we'll get through them all.

Do you have a step-daughter? Read my post: 8 Things I Want My Step-Daughter to Know

She's starting to get into that "tween" stage, almost a teenager, but still our little girl. We were racking our brains trying to figure out what gift to get her for her first double-digit birthday, because she's almost out of the dolls and pretend play stage but not quite into the fashion and boys (thank goodness!) so picking out something we knew she would love has been challenging... to say the least.

But when Precious Moments reached out to us about a possible review of their Growing in Grace figurines, I knew that was perfect. There's just something so precious about having a little girl. And with Precious Moments, we can capture the memories each year with a new figurine.

I cant wait to show her how much we love her playful side with this sweet Growing In Grace figurine. The perfect birthday gift for our little ten year old, and I can't wait to carry on the tradition of getting her a new one every year to celebrate new milestones and another year of memories.

Honestly, I wish I had known about these sooner. They have a special figurine for every year, from 1 up to 16, each one showcasing a special moment in a girl's life. Each scene comes with either a little brunette or a little blonde, so I picked out the blonde one to match Lexi's golden locks.

I can't wait to see her face light up when she opens up her birthday present. It'll have more meaning to her than just a simple little figurine, because she'll know that it's meant to be her. One of her favorite memories is sneaking to the bowling alley with Daddy for special Father-Daughter time, so this is just the sweetest little way for her to always look back and remember the fun they have.

At just a little over 5 inches high, this sweet Precious Moments figurine looks great on a shelf or on a nightstand. Since there's one for every year between 1-16, these make a great gift for any little girl.

You can find the Precious Moments Growing in Grace collection at Hallmark Stores or at their online store.

Review of Skip Hop Zoo Collection Zoojamas™ and Storage Bin

Ever since Kaya was born, she's had those big bright blue eyes. I've always joked and called her my owl baby, and somehow everything in her nursery slowly became owl-themed.

So when Skip Hop reached out to me about reviewing a couple of items from their Zoo Collection, I was all over it! Seriously, have you seen the Otis the Owl line? So stinkin' cute!

They sent over the Large Storage Bin and the Zoojamas™ Little Kid Pajamas for us to review.

The Skip Hop Zoojamas™ are probably Kaya's favorite pajamas now. She loves the polka dot pattern on the pants and arms, and thinks the owl is "sooo cute!" (Apparently my three-year-old was a valley girl in a past life)

The top is scratch-free and double-lined, meaning this shirt is going to last as long as it fits her. When she grows out of it, we're going to have to buy the next size up, because she's decided that these are the only pajamas she's going to wear to sleep, ever. Oh yeah, bedtime's been fun...

Luckily, Skip Hop offers a range of sizes from 2T up to 6, so we'll be able to make sure she has her "owl jammies" for as long as this phase lasts. I'm ok with it, though, because I know the applique isn't going to be damaged in the washer. My favorite feature of these pajamas are the tighter-fitting cuffs on the wrists and ankles keep them from creeping up while she sleeps; I know that when she puts them on she's going to be warm all night long.

They're made from 100% cotton too, so the fabric is soft and breathable - so while she'll stay warm, I know she isn't going to overheat.

And they make snuggles even better!
Skip Hop also sent one of their Large Storage Bins, with Otis the Owl, of course. If your kids are anything like mine, there's probably toys scattered all over your living room. Seriously, half the time I can't walk through the living room without stepping on a doll or a book. It isn't that my kids are really messy - more like we didn't have much of an organizational plan implemented. (Ok, they're 3&5 - they might be a little messy.)

Collapsable storage bins are probably one of my favorite ways to organize the kids' toys. They're just so easy to fill up and then put into a cube shelf. The best part is that once you've shoved them into one of those shelves, company doesn't know just how many toys and mismatched dolls you just threw in there five minutes before they come over.

The Large Storage Bins from Skip Hop are a little bit different than other ones though. I mean, first off, look how cute that owl is! They have these easy-to-grip handles that make dragging them across the living room to fill with toys easier for any toddler, and the sides are sturdy enough to hold up to some abuse.

Having a cute storage box that she can call her own really encourages Kaya to clean up after herself. She's been excited to fill up her "owl box" with her toys instead of leaving the scattered all across the house, and that's made my life easier too.

Check out the adorable Zoo Collection from Skip Hop to find your kid's spirit animal, and be sure to follow them on Facebook & Instagram for even more cuteness!

Cheesy Stuffed Shells

This morning, things were so hectic. I was fighting with the three-year-old trying to get the house clean in between her whiney demands, and somehow managed to get dishes washed and a load of laundry started before 10am.

I was able to finally sit in front of the computer after that and got a post written, scheduled, and started in on some social media scheduling when Matt called. He needed me to run across town to meet him with his headphones and lunch because he left the house in too much of a hurry this morning and forgot his bag.

So out the door, Kaya and I went. Of course, since we were already out and about I decided to swing by the grocery store and grab something for supper before we went home. Which meant a Starbucks stop for a White Chocolate Mocha, because forget bringing a toddler to the grocery store without a little bit of a Mommy-reward.

There was the dilemma, though. I had no idea what to make for supper. We wandered around for a little while until Kaya chimed in to tell me she wanted "sketti."

Eh. We have spaghetti way too often around here, so I decided I wanted to try something new.

So we agreed on cheesy stuffed shells.

This recipe is simple and makes enough to feed a family of seven with leftovers. Which is decidedly a good thing, since my niece and her fiance are staying with us right now. She's just entering her second trimester and has been craving Italian food, so leftovers are definitely a plus.

Cheesy Stuffed Shells

Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Total time: 50 minutes
Yield: 8 servings

  • 24 ounce container Small Curd Cottage Cheese
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • 3/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

  • 1 Egg (slightly beaten)
  • 1 tsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tsp Dried Parsley
  • 1 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 lb Ground Beef

Directions

5. Spread 1/3 of meat sauce in the bottom of a 15 x 10 inch pan. Place shells open side up, and close together in pan. Spread remaining sauce over top, and sprinkle with remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan and Mozzarella cheese.
6. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, or until bubbly. Broil an addition 5 minutes for golden brown cheese.

Best Headphones for the Active Dad #RiwboxHeadphonesX7

Father's Day is coming up soon, and I think I found the perfect gift for my man. He's a music lover, works outside, and often has trouble finding a pair of headphones that live up to his expectations. Luckily, I was able to receive a set of Riwbox x7 Comfort-Fit In-Ear Headphones that totally work for him.

PERFECT FOR ACTIVE LIFESTYLES
The Riwbox X7 headphones provide a locked-in, comfortable, noise-isolating in-ear fit for any activity while delivering clear and dynamic sound. Combined with the lab-tested sweat- and water-resistant design, this allows my man to forget about his earphones and concentrate on his work.

FOCUS ON WHATEVER ACTIVITY
Because they fit in his ear comfortably and doesn't slip out, the X7 eliminates my fiance's need to adjust his earphones in the middle of working. The Riwbox X7 headphones are made with a patented ergonomic housing design, over-the-ear fit, and memory wire technology. The memory wire is flexible and conforms comfortably to the shape of his ears, giving him a "locked-in" fit.

SOUND THAT MOTIVATES
Matt always works better with music. It energizes him and helps him set a steady pace for himeslf, and he loves the clear, dynamic sound and enhanced bass of the X7 headphones. The noise isolating in-ear design blocks out external noise, meaning he can listen at lower volumes, essentially protecting his hearing and improving sound quality. Plus he can ignore whiney co-workers, always a plus!

The package include:
X7 in-ear earphones
2 pairs of ear tips
Shirt clip, attached to the cable
Secure Earhooks
User Manual

All in all, this is probably his favorite pair of headphones to date.

You can find these headphones on Amazon for $13.98

Disclaimer: I received these headphones in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Eww Gross from Find It® Games Review

Kids are gross. Stinky, dirty, booger-eating little monsters that leave rocks in their pockets and sand in their shoes. It's like there's always something new and yucky for me to find every time I do laundry, or walk through the living room...

That just might've been the reasoning behind the Find It! game we had a chance to review recently. Kids are always leaving gross things for mom to find, so this Mom got to give them something gross in return!

Find It® Games are part game, part activity; the parent company Identity Games calls it a “contained adventure.” It’s a portable treasure hunt that you can take with you in the car, to the classroom, grandma’s house, or to just keep out in your room/office.

In every version of the Find It® game, you will find brightly colored pellets plus 40 or so small items that follow a specific theme (which are listed on top of the game for easy reference.)  Some items are easy to find; others a little harder. Just twist, spin, shake or tap the filled container to spot the hidden items - in alphabetical order, smallest to largest, fastest to slowest, etc.

It sounds easy, but it’s a challenge for any age - there are so many ways to play a Find It® Game!

Their newest version, Eww Gross, takes the same adventure as the other Find It® Games, but with a gross twist. Your kiddo will be searching for things like used cotton swabs, bandages, and smelly armpits. My little guy thought it was hilarious when he found poop...

My kids fought over who got to find the burp and giggled for ten minutes over the bugs... Seriously, kids are gross. But this game really was fun for them, and I like that it helps improve concentration and promotes focus.

If "Eww Gross" isn't for you, they have a Find It® Game for everyone! They're also running a promotion, Buy 3 Games and you get one Free - so you can make sure every kid has their own, and you can get one, too!

Check them out on their website: FindItGames.

You can also connect with them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I love when they share reaction pictures for kids finding items in their Eww Gross game!

Disclaimer: I received the Eww Gross game in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was exchanged. All opinions are my own.

Keep Dad Hydrated with Brita Universal Jug Filter

This post brought to you by Brita Universal Jug Cooler Filtration System. The content and opinions expressed below are that of Momma Without a Clue.

I have a hard-working man. He's a contractor/laborer that spends all day building, fixing, creating, destroying... He works hard to take care of us. I appreciate every job, every night he can't be home by 5 because he was in the middle of a project that couldn't be stopped, and even those days he clomped mud through the house - because it's that hard work that keeps food on the table and a roof over our heads.

With Father's Day coming up (June 19th!) I was happy to be able to find a product that shows him how much we care about all that he does for us. I really appreciate companies that work hard to create products that make his job easier and help take care of him, like Brita. They have a new product, the Brita Univeral Jug Filter, that filters your hard worker's water right in their water cooler!

Matt is a union painter, or as his official title claims: a hazardous material applicator. He often travels to nuclear plants for jobs that require him to strip lead paint, sandblast, and apply new paint. When he is in between jobs, he works construction. The kids look up to him just as much as I do, and nothing means more to us than keeping him safe and healthy. This means making sure he has his work boots, his safety equipment, and his water.

All that time spent in the sun and busting his butt doing physical labor, I worry about dehydration and overheating. I used to be sure he always had cases of water bottles to bring with him to work, but all that waste and bulkiness tended to cause issues.

I'm really happy we discovered the Brita Jug Filter because refilling a water cooler on a job site isn't always the best idea. Using the water hose, he's complained of his water tasting like sulfur or having dirt particles. With the Brita Universal Jug Filter, I know that his water is filtered and tastes better - meaning he's going to stay hydrated on these long jobs out in the sun.

The Brita  Jug Filter comes with adapters that fit the Coleman, Igloo and Rubbermaid water jugs and the makes tap water just taste better. Filtering 5 gallons of water at a time is easy because it attaches right to the inside of the spout so you know the water coming out runs right through it. There are even reminder tags on the filters so you know to replace them every 2 months.

Brita is also running a promotion, showcasing their jug filter as an unsung Hydration Hero. While the submission period is over, you can still vote for your favorite and Be a Brita Hero! Hurry and vote for your favorite #H20Hero before May 30th!

You can find the Brita Jug Filter at Home Depot online at homedepot.com.

Who's your hero? How do you show them you care?
