5 Tips For Healthy Skin

If you do not have the time for an intensive skin care routine, you can pamper your skin by doing basics. It is not necessary that you spend long hours in the salon or buy expensive skin care products so as to keep your skin healthy. Rather, a healthy lifestyle can prevent aging and will also keep you safe from skin problems. Here are a few no-nonsense tips for healthy-looking skin.

Stay away from the sun

One of the most important ways to keep your skin from aging is to take care of the skin. You need to ensure your skin is always protected from the sun. Consistent sun exposure can cause age spots, wrinkles and other skin problems. Always use a sunscreen with SPF of at least 15 and apply it on your face and body. Reapply it every few hours and more often if you are swimming. Try your best to avoid the sun between the peak hours that is 10 am to 4 pm. This is when the rays are the strongest and could harm your skin. Always cover your skin with long-sleeved shirts, wide brimmed hats and long pants. Try giving your clothing an additional layer of protection for certain washings or pick sun protective clothing which is designed to block the UV rays.

Quit smoking

Your skin can look older with a lot of wrinkles if you smoke. It will narrow the blood vessels in the outer layer of the skin and will decrease the flow of blood. This will make your skin look paler and it will lose the glow. If you smoke a lot, it will deplete the skin of the oxygen and the nutrients which are highly essential for healthy and young looking skin. Smoking can damage the collagen in your skin. Collagen is a fiber which gives strength and elasticity to the skin. Most importantly, the facial expressions you make while smoking also contribute to the wrinkles. It can cause cell skin cancer and has a number of negative effects on your body as well. If you are a smoker, the best thing you can do is quit. Try different treatments to help you stop smoking.

Take care of your skin

Cleansing and shaving can take a toll on the skin. You need to take steps to look after your skin and never be too harsh on it. Limit your bathroom time and use warm instead of hot water. Hot water can remove the oil from your skin. Also, avoid strong detergents or soaps because they will remove the oil from your skin. Replace them with mild cleansers. Always shave carefully and when you have time. Do not do it when you are in a rush. Apply shaving cream before shaving and use a clean razor to shave in the direction the hair grows and not against it. Once you take a bath, pat the skin with a dry towel so that the moisture in the skin remains. Those with a dry skin need to use a moisturizer that is apt for your skin type. Consider a moisturizer with SPF for daily use.

Healthy diet

A healthy diet will not only impact your skin but your overall health and well being. When you eat good, you feel and look good. You need to include a lot of fruits, lean proteins, vegetables and whole grains in your diet. Also, if you have a diet which is rich in fish oil and low in unhealthy fats, you will have a younger looking skin. In addition to the diet, make sure you drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated for long hours.

Handle stress

Stress is a prime reason why you have acne breakouts and a dull skin. In order to have healthy and young looking skin, you need to manage your stress. Always set limits to work, get enough sleep and cut down the to do list. You need to take out time for yourself and do things you enjoy.

Looking after your skin is not rocket science. If you follow a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle, you will be able to see dramatic changes to your skin. Your health and well being will reflect the strong choices you are making and you will be able to notice the difference in no time. Always watch out for the signs your body or your skin shows and take healthy and effective steps to overcome the same.
